There was a short silence across the grounds, had Harry just said what you think he said? Did he really just say that you were the prettiest girl at Hogwarts? He was still holding your hand very tightly when you slowly looked down at your hands intertwined and gripped his hand just as tight. You then looked up to him, your cheeks glowing bright red and your heart racing, slightly smiling. He was looking directly at Draco with a stern look on his face.

Draco then broke the silence, “What did you just say?” he said, half shocked.
“I said that you should be ashamed for picking on the prettiest girl at Hogwarts, Malfoy.” Harry said again, blushing slightly. After he repeated what he had said, everyone now knew that they had not been mistaken for what they had heard. Harry Potter had been hiding a secret crush on you. A Gryffindor, more certainly Harry, fancied a Hufflepuff girl.

The other students began whispering and muttering things to each other, but Harry seemed not to notice them. He just continued looking Draco straight in the eye, smirking a little. Draco certainly noticed all the whispers and mutters between the students and knowing that he himself did not cause this small commotion about Harry, he was not happy. He now had a look of shock and frustration on his pale, pointed face. Never did he ever think that Harry would just flat out admit to fancying a girl, especially not a girl like you.

After a few moments of being speechless, he spat out a sour “Fine then, Potter. Go and have fun with your new little Honey Badger.” and turned. “I bet it won’t even last two weeks if you ask me.” He then muttered under his breath to a short, chubby Slytherin boy that was standing next to him, trying to keep his reputation of being a total prat to Harry and pretty much everyone else. The boy was Crabbe, one of Draco’s closest friends in the whole school. He then agreed with Draco and snickered along with him as they walked away, still muttering about you and Harry.

Everyone standing around was either watching them head in the direction of the library or still silently staring at you and Harry. Once Draco and Crabbe were out of sight, a lot of the students split up and went about their business of getting ready for the Quidditch match that afternoon.
After everyone had gone, Harry turned to you, his cheeks still bright red. “Sorry…” he spat out and let go of your hand, then looked down, obviously totally embarrassed. “I…I just didn’t want him to…you know, tell everyone. If they were going to hear about it, I-I’d rather it be from me than that no good Draco Malfoy…”

You looked up to him and smiled, “Harry, there’s no reason for you to apologize. I would have done the same thing honestly…” you say and look down slightly, still smiling. “Thanks for standing up for me by the way…No one else would have done that for me. I don’t really have a lot of friends outside of Hufflepuff.” You said with a little bit of sadness in your voice.

Harry looked back at you, “Oh I’m sure that there are other people that would have stood up for you, (F/N).” You shook your head without looking at him and sighed, “I don’t have many friends at all. Everyone says that I’m weird and “just a Hufflepuff” so…I don’t talk to many people. You, Hermione, Ginny and Ron are my only real friends from another house. Cedric and I are pretty close along with a few other Hufflepuffs, but I think that you guys are my best friends here.”

Harry sighed a little, “Well…for the record, I don’t think you’re weird or just a Hufflepuff. I think you’re amazing. You’re so nice to everyone and have one of the best personalities I’ve ever seen in a person here. All of that on the inside, and the outside is just as beautiful.” He laughed a little, smiled and looked away, blushing slightly.

You turned to him, smiling, “You…you really think that, Harry?” “Of course. Why would I say something that I didn’t mean? And…honestly if you want the truth…I’ve always thought that about you…” he said softly, as if he didn’t know what you were going to say or do. You blushed, “Really…? You’ve always thought that about me? Like, since first year?” “Absolutely,” he said and looked at you, now glowing bright red and smiling, “ever since I first noticed you. To be exact, the first time I saw you was when you were called to be Sorted. Once I saw your face, I instantly thought that you were very pretty. I really was hoping that you would be Sorted into Gryffindor so I could get to know you better.

“Once the Sorting Hat shouted Hufflepuff, I knew that we wouldn’t be the close friends that I wanted us to be, but surprisingly enough, we were. I just, for some reason, I felt an instant connection with you. You’ve accepted me and supported me throughout my time here at Hogwarts. Even believed all I’ve told you about Voldemort.” (You didn’t flinch at the mention of Voldemort’s name. You believed that if he really was back, Dumbledore and most certainly Harry and Cedric would protect you from him.) “I just never told you all of this because…because I didn’t know what you would say. I felt like you see me as a brother and you would be disgusted by it and not want to be my friend anymore. I couldn’t let that happen…” Harry looked away from you, his eyes glistening with the tears that were beginning to well up in his eyes just thinking about that happening.

“Harry,” you say as you place your left hand on his shoulder, “I would never not want to be your friend. Of all the crazy and stupid things that you have done, you should know that by now.” You giggled a little and smiled at him. “Honestly, I don’t think I could ask for a better friend here.” Harry looked up to you and smiled a little, “Well…now that I know you’re not weirded out by it, or are going to tell me that you don’t want to be my friend anymore…I guess, if you want to, there’s no reason that you can’t read anything in this.” He looked down at his journal, “There’s nothing that needs to be a secret anymore. These secrets in here have been eating me alive keeping from you. Ron and Hermione are the only ones who know about what’s written inside about you. If you don’t want to read it, I understand but it would really be helpful for me to know that I don’t have to hide anything from you…” he said and held it out to you.

You were shocked, Harry never let anyone touch his journal. You now knew why, it had been filled with his true feelings about you. No one knew how he felt about you except Ron and Hermione. You really felt like you should tell Harry how you felt about him, but you were too focused on what he might have written in his journal about you. You smiled and slowly took the journal out of his hand, “Harry, you never let anyone read what you’ve written in here, you’re sure before I read it?”

He looked at the journal, now in your hands, then back to you and smiled, “The only reason that I wouldn’t let anyone touch it was because my true feelings for you are written in it. It’s not even a journal that I write every day in. It’s the journal that I write my feelings in. That’s why I had it and lost it in one of the corridors on my way back to the Gryffindor tower from the library. Professor Trelawney has us doing some weird thing that we have to use our emotions for. She told us to keep a journal or diary of our feelings when we felt them the strongest all year. I was in the library trying to study for something that she was having us do soon on Thursday night. I’d never admit it to Malfoy, but most of the things that I wrote in the journal were feelings I had for you. For five years now, I have had to bottle them all up and hide them away from the rest of the school, when I started writing about you in it, I had a hard time stopping…”

Harry looked at you, still a looking a bit like he was scared of your response to what he was saying. He still smiled a little though, it was more of an awkward “I can’t believe I just said that” smile, but it just made him look even cuter to you. For the first time, Harry was the one nervous about talking to you, not the other way around. And for all you knew, he was always nervous when he talked to you just like you were when you talked to him.

This was so much to take in all at once, you had just been picked on my Draco Malfoy and of all your friends, Harry Potter stood up for you. You had been crushing on him since your first year at Hogwarts and you just found out that he had been crushing on you for the same amount of time. Not only that, he was letting you read his journal. His journal that he never let anyone touch and now you knew why. That journal had been filled with what most likely you had been daydreaming that Harry would think or feel about you.

“Harry…” you looked to him and smiled “I would have never thought that this journal…” You looked down to the tattered old journal with the golden letters spelling “POTTER” glistening in the sunlight, “I would have never thought that it was all about…me…” You looked back to him and he let out a breath of relief, now smiling, looking into your (E/C) eyes.

All of this going on, you were thinking it over in your head to tell Harry that you felt the same way about him, but instead you were too interested in his journal. You slowly opened the cover and saw his name on the first page. “This journal belongs to: Harry James Potter” Harry was watching you turn page after page, obviously nervous again.

The first entry you found about you was the third one.

“I saw (F/N) again today. She was late to breakfast in the Great Hall and came to sit at the Hufflepuff table, her hair in a messy braid, 15 minutes after everyone else. She was just as beautiful as she always is, even though she looked like she overslept and threw on her robes and makeup. She’s amazing either way. She even looked at me and smiled and waved as soon as she sat down with Cedric. He’s very lucky, he knows her very well and she loves hanging out with him. As much as I like being a Gryffindor, I would love to be a Hufflepuff just to be closer to (F/N). I don’t know if she even thinks of me as more than a friend. I wish I could just tell her how I feel.”

The next page was about you as well.

“I saw (F/N) and Cedric hanging out together again today after class. It seems like she’s always with him. I don’t think that even if I told her how I felt, it matter at all. Her and Cedric look very happy together and have known each other since her first year. They are so much closer than we are. I wish I could just get over her sometimes because I think they’ll be a couple sometime soon…”

After reading that entry, you giggled a little. “What?” Harry spat out, now seeming very concerned and nervous. “You thought that Cedric and I fancied each other.” You said and looked up to him smiling, “We’re more like brother and sister if you ask me. I hang out with him so much because he’s my best friend in Hufflepuff.” Harry looked relieved to hear those words come out of your mouth. Then after a moment, he spoke again, but this time in a low, muffled tone “Well…I wasn’t the only one who thought that you know…” You looked at him, “What?”

“A lot of people from Gryffindor and Ravenclaw thought you two we either dating or fancied each other…” Harry said, now a bit nervous. He knew that you had no idea that people had been thinking that now. “People were saying that about us behind our backs?” you ask, a bit more serious now. Harry got a bit nervous again, “Yeah…some students were taking bets on how long it would be until you got together with Cedric…”

You were shocked by him telling you this, you hadn’t heard anything about other students thinking that you and Cedric were dating without saying so. “You weren’t betting on it were you, Harry?” you ask, closing the journal without looking at it. “No, of course not! I would never do that behind your back.” “Well then why didn’t you tell me about this going on, Harry?” your voice was raising little by little every time you spoke.

“I-I didn’t know if you would want to hear it from me! Hermione and Ron knew about it too! Hermione was the one who found out before anyone else! Fred and George were the ones who started it and she found out about it before I did. She’s the prefect.” Harry was now speaking a bit faster and you could tell he was getting nervous and frustrated at the same time.

“Why would I care who I heard it from? You know I don’t like people doing things behind my back like that, Harry!” you say with tears welling up in your eyes. “I-I know that! I just didn’t-“ he was cut off by you shoving his journal back into his hands, “I don’t care what you were! If you were my friend, you would’ve told me what was going on! I already have people talking about me behind my back and to think you and Hermione kept this from me! Consider this friendship over, Harry Potter!” you shout at him and storm off, now with tears flowing down your cheeks.

Harry stood watching as you ran off, holding the journal in his hands, taking in what just happened. Once it had processed through his mind, he threw the journal down into the mud and stormed off to the Gryffindor Tower. The entire trek there he was thinking “What did I just do?!”
